Repurposed Structure With A New Annex

“The City of LeClaire has done a number of surveys over the last few years asking residents what their priorities are for recreational amenities,” said Dennis Gerard, mayor of LeClaire, Iowa in an interview with the Quad City News. “The top answer is consistently a need for a new recreation facility, including a pool. The Y is the perfect solution and perfect partner for the City.”

This is why the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley has begun building its new $18 million facility, half of which is funded by the city. It’s also why we loved working on the building and site design. We know it’s something the community needs and wants.

The architecture repurposes an existing 7,000+ square foot structure, most of which will become a full court basketball gym. Added will be about 36,000 square feet in a new building that will house a natatorium (lap pool and group water exercise area), weight room, running track, wellness facilities, an open-circulation multi-level lobby and other functions. The look and feel is airy, modern, and inviting to members old and new.

The design of the complex includes lots of windows, including the cardio exercise area. It would be a mistake to not allow in the panoramic views, which include the nearby Mississippi River.

Construction is expected to be complete as of late 2026.
