Projects
La Jolla YMCA, CA

Details
With the objective of repositioning of one of San Diego’s venerable flagship YMCAs to accommodate an increase in engagement with families, older adults and adult wellness members, the La Jolla Family Y is set to undergo a $16M transformation. The project will involve the demolition of approximately 20,000 sq. ft. of single-story, 1960's vintage building area, to make way for a new two-story, 30,000 main building upon the campus. The new facility will house a 10,000 sq. ft. wellness center, including new group exercise studios, and an outdoor yoga terrace. The lower level of the new 2-story center, which will be named after the lead donor to the project – Dan McKinney – will house a new kids' adventure center, community teaching kitchen, teen intergenerational center, and an outdoor family lounge/gathering terrace. The campus itself will see major reorganization with the introduction of a new 3-pool family and instructional aquatic center and replacement of aged tennis courts making way for a new multi-sport, turf arena. Slated to be carried-out in three phases over an 18-month period, the project is in final design stages, with construction slated to commence in Q1 2015.
